Jasmine's POV

I grabbed Grandma and Nick and the animals (they had to come since they’re all partners), and we and Luke and Toothless went to my school.

We didn’t have to break in because Luke could easily unlock the door. And we did actually call the principal to let him know we were coming, but he didn’t make sure the door was unlocked.

We headed to the security room and looked at the cameras. Nick went to the controls and started working on them.

“Hey,” I complained. “I want to do that.”

“Ok,” he replied. “Do you know how to?”

“I’ve been learning, and I’d like to try. You can be my observer, and help me if I do it wrong, or can’t remember what to do.”

“All right. Be my guest.”

“Thank you.”

I went to the controls.

And it is true that I’ve been learning to be an electronic hacker, especially with computers. It’s mostly because Annabeth and I have been watching a few criminal investigation shows for the past few years, and they always seem to need someone who’s good with electronics and I want to be too.

Plus, my other grandparents, my dad’s parents, house is pretty much built on electricity, and me being a Saturday, I’m allowed to learn how it all works, even more than my dad when he was my age because I’m more responsible, even now. Same with Whitney.

I grabbed out my tablet and connected it to the security camera system since it’s so much easier to work on with a touch screen than buttons. I focused on the camera in the girl’s bathroom first, since that’s where Luke told me Chelsea and her sisters cornered Annabeth the first time.

I went back to that day two weeks ago, and I did, in fact, see them corner Annabeth and Chelsea telling her that she’s holding me back from making a name for myself as a dancer and that she’s going to make me know that she’s a freak and doesn’t deserve a friend like her, along with a few other insults.

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I target-locked on Annabeth and Chelsea and scrolled through the cameras from that day to now. It didn’t really start until after my tryout.

I saw Chelsea sneering at Annabeth with my back turned and her glaring back. Then watching me and Chelsea chat while walking through the halls, her sisters and Annabeth walking behind us, and seeing them stop to the side and make her trip right onto the ground.

Another instance tripping her down the stairs. Chelsea and her sisters acted concerned for her, but as I helped her back on her feet with Chelsea helping, they sneered at her again without me noticing, but Annabeth did.

After the fifth one, I started crying. Annabeth went through so much because of me, and I didn’t know until now. What kind of best friend doesn’t know?

We watched every abusive thing they did to Annabeth up to the last one that happened earlier, today, and that’s when she had enough.

She stormed off to the other side of the building and Chelsea followed because she told me that she was going to talk to her, but she really went to taunt and gloat to her how she won me, all while she was crying.

Then me and the flower-sisters came, and Chelsea told me a lie that Annabeth knew was one and attacked her. That was my favorite part.

My least favorite part was when I pulled her off her and she’s trying to tell me the truth, but I didn’t listen and defended Chelsea when I shouldn’t have after she told me yet another lie.

After Annabeth ran after telling me how she felt and that last clip ending, I dropped my tablet and collapsed.

Luke caught me before I could hit the floor along with my tablet and held me as I cried more than I think I ever have before.

Annabeth doesn’t deserve me as her friend, and I certainly don’t deserve her as mine. She went through so much torture, and I did nothing. I know that I didn’t know until now, but still.

Annabeth was right: I have changed from being a good best friend to being the worst. I wanted to blame Chelsea for all of this, but it wasn’t just her fault. It was mine, too, for letting it happen in the first place.

“Jasmine,” Grandma said. “Are you ok?”

“No, I’m not ok!” I practically screamed. “I lost my best friend!”

“You can get her back now that you know the truth,” Luke said.

“She probably hates me.”

“I don’t think anybody hates you more than you do,” Grandma said.

Yeah, she was probably right. And I want to go find Annabeth and tell her how deeply sorry I am. But not yet. Not until I settle something.

I stood up and wiped my tears away.

“What are you doing?” Luke asked.

“I’m making this right,” I said. “Starting with those bitches.”

I had Grandma save all of those videos of Chelsea and her sisters abusing Annabeth onto my phone. Then we teleported home and I gave Chelsea a call.

She may sound very convincing, but she’s not the only one.

“Hey, Chelsea,” I said as soon as she answered the phone, sounding like I was being friendly when I was really scowling. “Are you busy?”

“Hey, Jasmine,” she replied. “And no, I’m not busy.”

“Great. Do you think that you and your sisters can come over to my house? I have a new cheer in mind that we can do, and I want to try it out as soon as possible so that we can decide if it’s good or not.”

“Ok. But I’m sure it’s good since you came up with it.”

“All right. I’ll be waiting in the arena at my grandparent’s house. Just ring the doorbell. Someone will answer it and lead you down there.”

“The arena? Why on earth are you in there?”

“Because I want to be.”

“Oh, alright. We’ll be there in about five. See ya.”

“See ya.” I ended the call. “I so wouldn’t wanna be ya.”

See? That’s how convincing I am. I sounded so cheerful when I’m really planning their ambush.

I put my phone in my pocket and went to the arena. After getting there, I grabbed my dual blades and strapped them onto my back.

I did use to have a sword, but I exchanged it for dual blades. I play this video game as a warrior, and one of the weapon choices was dual blades, and I use them, and they’re awesome. So I wanted to use them in real life and asked Grandma if she could give me some.

She gladly did so by shrinking my sword to half its size and doubling it. She made one of them Celestial Bronze, and the other stainless steel, because I like to have the ability to both kill monsters and mortals. It’s even cooler to really use them than in the game. One of them only works, I know, unless they’re demigods, but it gives me the advantage of confusion before I kill them with the other one that actually works, though they don’t even get a chance to be confused because of how fast I swing them.

I also had my grandma make a second set of each in case I want to have both to be able to affect the same thing. And at this moment, I wanted to have both of my stainless steel ones.

This is the first time in over a week that I’ve touched them. I can’t believe Chelsea convinced me that I shouldn’t use them at all.

Well, now she’s going to know how they feel.

About ten minutes passed before she and her sisters finally came into the room, led by Luke and Emily.

“Oh, Jasmine,” Chelsea said. “I forgot that you said to meet you at your grandparent’s house, and we accidentally went to your house instead. At least it was just up the hill.”

I faked a smile. “Yeah. Thank God for that.”

I knew she was going to go to my house. She’s done it before. I should put a tracker on her connected to my phone, and if she goes to the wrong place, I’d shock her. Why am I thinking about this? It doesn’t matter!

Luke and Emily sat on a bench right next to the door to watch how this goes. For what I have planned, they may not want to watch.

“So what new cheer did you come up with?” Chelsea asked. “And why do you want to practice it in here around all these sharpy-things? And why do you have some on your back?”

I rolled my eyes. I really hated it when she called weapons that.

“I wanted to wear them,” I said. “They’re comfortable. And as for this room, it’s spacious.”

“So is your basketball court,” Chelsea said. “But even that’s nicer than this.”

“I still like this room better.”

“Ok. So what’s this new cheer?”

“Before we practice it, I want to show you guys a new video I saw on YouTube. Gather in front of me, ladies.”

They did so, but not without being confused. It was a little odd because I mostly just watch music videos and animals and some dancing, but I do sometimes show it to others too.

I grabbed my phone out of my pocket, went over to the videos I had saved on it, which was a lot, and went to the last one with Chelsea and her sisters torturing Annabeth. I showed it to them, starting with the first time in the girl’s bathroom.

Each of the sisters stared at the screen in shock. I only showed them about a minute of it, even though there were a lot of minutes of it, because I wanted to get on with it already.

I turned off the video and put my phone back in my pocket without taking my eyes off of them.

They now looked at me with horror, and I looked back with anger, no longer faking a smile, but showing my true feelings.

“You’re good at making sure that no person sees what you’re doing, Chelsea,” I said. “But you’re not good at making sure that no camera sees either.”

She swallowed nervously. “Jasmine—”

“Save it!” I unsheathed my dual blades and held one of them against her neck.

I pushed forward and Chelsea and her sisters backed up as I continued to tell her how I felt.

“You have been torturing and abusing Annabeth since day one. You tried to take me away from her, my best friend and my sister, just because you hated her and think that I should be living a more glamorous life and have butlers and maids, like every other fucking rich person out there. And the worst part is, I almost fell for it. You have been lying to me, especially about Annabeth, even when she was trying to tell me the truth. But I didn’t listen because of you. She and I had a fight because of your lies about her. You caused all this shit between us because you’re envious and think you know everything, especially about what I should do just because I’m the daughter of a celebrity, but you don’t know anything about me. You tried to change me into something I’m not. And worst of all, you turned me against my best friend, you fucking evil bitch. And no one ever. Gets. Away. With. That. Especially not from me.”

I backed them all against the wall now.

They were clutching each other’s hands, but I doubt it was for redemption.

“Jasmine,” Chelsea said. “We’re really—”

“Don’t you dare beg for mercy,” I interrupted. “Because I won’t give it to you. But I will give you this.”

I stabbed one of my dual blades into her shoulder.

She screamed in pain and clutched it, her sisters screamed in horror, and blood started to spill.

“Jasmine!” Luke and Emily yelled.

I know, I know. A bit dramatic, but I was so pissed, and it felt great. So much that I stabbed her again in the stomach with my other dual blade, and even more blood poured out of her.

I was about to go for yet another stab, but Luke and Emily stopped me before I could. Luke grabbed me and pulled me back, and Emily took my dual blades out of my hands.

“No,” I argued. “Let me go.”

“I think you’ve shown them enough of your anger,” Luke said.

“Not enough to kill her.”

“Oh, I think you have,” Emily said.

Chelsea was lying on the floor now, turning pale with her blood pouring all around her, and barely moving.

“We have to help her,” Emily said.

“No,” I said. “She deserves to die for what she did to me and Annabeth.”

“I’m kind of with her on that, Emily,” Luke said.

She groaned. “You’re not helping. But Jasmine, how about you go make up with Annabeth, and Luke, you go get Mom.”

“Can I have my dual blades?” I asked.

“Fine. Here.”

She gave me them back but didn’t turn away until I sheathed them.

“I hope this also tells you that I quit the cheerleading squad,” I told Chelsea.

I couldn’t wait to see Annabeth, but she was still mad at me. Hopefully not after I beg for her forgiveness.

“Can you send me there?” I asked Emily.

She didn’t reply. She just activated her powers and teleported me to Camp Half-Blood.

Annabeth’s POV

For the first time since I was seven, I felt alone.

Yeah, there were a few campers at camp, but none that I was really close with.

This is the first time I’ve ever been at camp without either Jasmine or Luke, and I didn’t realize that it was this lonely here without them. But I knew which of their faults that was.

I sighed.

Me, Chiron, and a few campers were at the campfire, but since there were no children of Apollo that stay at camp year-round to start a sing-along, we just sat around the fire and chatted with each other, but I was alone, which was fine by me.

That is, until, I heard my name be called. “Annabeth!”

It was Jasmine.

I would’ve probably ignored her because I was mad at her, but she sounded distressed.

I couldn’t really see that far since it was dark, but when she came into the light of the fire, I could see that she was crying.

I ran over to her. “Jasmine, what’s wrong?”

“I am so sorry,” she replied. “I found out that Chelsea was lying to me about you, what she told you in the girls bathroom at school about you holding me back from my dancing before my tryout; her sisters tripping you down the hall and down the stairs and pretending that they did nothing; me pulling you off of Chelsea when you attacked her, even though she clearly deserved it; me starting a fight with you and calling you a bitch, but you are still a bitch for not telling me when this began; for being blind and listening to Chelsea’s lies; and anything else I did to you that I shouldn’t have, and I’m so sorry for it all. I shouldn’t have let this happen to you, and I promise that I will never, ever, do that to you again. I swear that on the River Styx. And I’m not being held back from my dancing. I mean, I dance all the fucking time for God’s sake, and if I was being held back from dancing, you certainly wouldn’t be the reason for it. I would much rather break both my legs and never dance again than lose you as my best friend. And if either of us doesn’t deserve the other as their best friend, it’s me that doesn’t deserve you. I was the worst best friend and sister to you, and that’s not what best friends and sisters do, and I’m so sorry for doing that to you, Annabeth. Can you ever forgive me?”

She tried to catch her breath.

Wow. I was so not expecting that.

I only heard half of what she said because she was crying so much, but it was still incredible. I even started to cry a little bit myself.

I didn’t know what to say, but I smiled and nodded. Jasmine smiled back and seemed to cry more. Then she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into a hug. I hugged her back.

I forgot that we were at the campfire, where everyone at camp was watching this scene take place. A couple of the girl campers said “Aww.”

I pulled away from Jasmine slightly. “Let’s go somewhere more private.”

She nodded in agreement. “Yeah.”

I took her hand and we ran to our cabin.

After we got there, I closed the door behind us.

“So what happened?” I asked Jasmine. “How did you find out the truth?”

“From Luke and security cameras,” she replied.

She told me everything that Luke told her, that she was still unsure, and remembered that the school had security cameras. She looked over them all and found her proof. Then she confronted Chelsea and her sisters, neither of them denied it, and she came here to see me.

“Wow,” I said after she finished. “It’s amazing what can happen after only being gone for just a few hours.”

“I know,” Jasmine agreed. “And I’m so sor—”

“Please don’t say you’re sorry again,” I interrupted. “You said it enough in that speech, and it’s just annoying now.”

She smiled. “Ok. And I also quit the cheerleading squad.”

“You did?”

She nodded. “I’m not cheering with them anymore. And Shillow’s probably not going to be the mascot anymore, which she’s probably not going to like.”

We both laughed.

“Probably not,” I agreed. “But she’ll get over it eventually.”

Jasmine nodded in agreement. “Yeah.”

“Hey, did you know that Mom and Aunt Selena were cheerleaders when they were in school?”

She nodded. “Uh-huh.”

“How did you find out?”

“Mom told me when I told her that I was trying out for it. What about you?”

“She told me today after I said that all cheerleaders are mean.”

“Oh. How did she take that?”

“Ok. I guess because she knew that I didn’t know that she was a cheerleader.”

“Well, now you do. And now that I’ve quit, I still have my uniform, but I won’t need it anymore. So how would you like to burn it?”

I tried to hide my smile but failed. “I’d love to. Do you want to go home and see if we can start a fire in the backyard?”

“Uh . . . I don’t think we should,” Jasmine replied, shifting uncomfortably on the bed. “There may be cops at our house.”

I narrowed my eyes. “Why?”

“Well . . .” Jasmine unsheathed her two short swords from behind her back.

I noticed blood on the blades of both of them, and it still looked fresh.

I stared at her in horror. “What did you do?”

She smiled sheepishly. “I left out something while I was explaining on purpose. When I confronted Chelsea, I was so mad that she did this to us that I lost it.”

“You killed her?”

“I don’t know.”

“What do you mean?”

“I intended to kill her. I stabbed her twice, but Luke and Emily stopped me before I could.”

“I can’t believe they didn’t stop you before the first stab.”

“That’s probably because they didn’t see it coming.”

“I doubt anybody did.”

“Yeah.”

“But, Jasmine, you were really trying to kill her?”

“She pissed me off by turning me against you, and no one gets away with that.”

“Ok. But killing her? Don’t you think that’s overdramatic?”

She shook her head. “No.”

That worried me. “So you just left her dead, lying in her own blood.”

“I don’t know that she’s dead,” Jasmine replied. “Even though I’m pretty sure that the couple stabs I gave her were fatal, Emily was working on saving her.”

“Did you like stabbing her?”

“It felt good.”

“That’s disturbing, Jasmine.”

“Oh, come on, Annabeth. You can’t tell me that you haven’t wanted to stab her yourself.”

“I did. But my knife wouldn’t affect her since it’s Celestial bronze and she’s a mortal. It would just go through her. And hearing how much you enjoyed stabbing her makes me not want to stab anybody if I would get that kind of enjoyment out of it like a serial killer.”

“Not even a monster?”

“Not unless it attacks me first.”

“Which it always does.”

“Yeah.”

“Ok. But can you help me clean my dual blades? They have blood all over them.”

“And whose fault is that?”

“Shut up and take one.”

“Fine.”

I got two buckets of water, two rags, and I started cleaning one of the blades while Jasmine cleaned the other.

“We’re going to need some bleach if you want to permanently get rid of the blood,” I said.

“I know,” Jasmine replied. “You’re not the only one who watches criminal investigation shows.”

“Ok, ok. But how long do we have to stay here until we can go home?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess until they call us and tell us that the police are gone.”

“Isn’t Grandma the police? I mean, she is the Protector of America.”

“Technically, yes. Though she doesn’t have a badge and follows her own law. But I guess I could call her.”

Jasmine grabbed out her phone and dialed Grandma’s number. Then she put it down between us on speaker phone.

After a few rings, Grandma answered. “Hello?”

“Hey, Grandma,” Jasmine greeted. “I’m with Annabeth, and I have you on speaker phone.”

“Ok. Hi, guys. And Jasmine, what the hell?”

She couldn’t hold back her smile. “Is Chelsea dead?”

“No.”

“What? How is she not?”

“Emily and I put a lot of healing cream on her wounds and patched them up. Then I got some fresh blood and put it in her, and she’s alive and at home.”

“That’s good,” I said.

“No, it’s not,” Jasmine disagreed. “Why didn’t you let her die?”

“Seriously, Jasmine?” Grandma said. “If she died, this would be the first murder I’ve dealt with in years. I normally wouldn’t let someone get away with that, not even someone who’s related to me.”

“You wouldn’t?”

“No. Depending on the reason you tried to kill her in the first place. And, in this case, she kind of deserved it.”

“She deserved worse.”

“Ok, Jasmine, hearing you talk like that is disturbing.”

“I know,” I agreed.

“Well, she did deserve worse,” Jasmine said.

“Jasmine,” Grandma said. “Just because someone deserves something, doesn’t mean you should give it to them.”

“Have you ever killed out of anger before, Grandma?”

“Yes.”

“How many, and why?”

“About ten, and for sexually abusing and raping my two oldest daughters.”

Jasmine and I looked at each other. That was not what we were expecting to hear, and it was a little too much.

We decided to get back on topic.

“Ok,” Jasmine said.

“What happened after you took Chelsea and her sisters home?” I asked.

“Well, we came up with a story to tell their parents about how Chelsea got her wounds and they bought it,” Grandma replied. “Then I thought of erasing their memories about what really happened, and I told them that, but Chelsea didn’t want me to.”

Jasmine narrowed her eyes. “Why?”

“She said that she wanted to remember what you did to her so that she can make sure she never does that again. Her sisters too.”

I could tell that Jasmine didn’t know how to process that. I didn’t either.

“Well, at least it knocked some sense into them,” Jasmine said. “But I’m in the clear?”

“Yes. Just try not to do that again.”

“I promise I’ll try not to do it again. That really depends on how much they piss me off. But do you think you can teleport us back there?”

“Of course.”

She hung up the phone.

Jasmine put her phone back in her pocket. Then the scene of our cabin disappeared and we were back home.

Jasmine ran to her room, got her uniform and Toothless, then she and I went out to the backyard.

We held up the two pieces of her uniform between us and stood back as far as we could.

“Ok, Toothless,” Jasmine said. “Use plasma blast, but not too big.”

He nodded in understanding. He stood about ten feet away and spit his fire onto the fabric.

It may have been small, but it was still enough to set it on fire. We put it on the ground and watched it until the fire died out. Luke appeared when it was about halfway done.

I started to blush, but it was hard to tell since the fire covered it.

“I see you two made up,” he said.

“Thanks to you,” Jasmine replied. “Thank you for telling me the truth.”

“Hey, I’m your legal guardian, and you’re my little girls. It’s practically my job to make sure that when something goes wrong between you two, it’s up to me to fix it.”

“Don’t call us little girls,” I said.

“Yeah,” Jasmine agreed. “We don’t like that.”

“You use to,” Luke said.

“When we were little girls. But we’re not anymore.”

“To me, you’ll always be.”

“Clearly.”

He smiled. “Well, I’m glad you two made up.”

Jasmine and I smiled at each other.

“Us too,” I said.

Jasmine nodded in agreement. Then she turned back to Luke. “Thank you again, Luke.”

“Anytime,” he replied.

Then she gave him a hug.

I took that as a chance to hug him too.

The moment I touched him, my whole body tingled, and the hug probably lasted longer than it did with him and Jasmine. When he finally pulled away, we said goodnight, and he left from our home to his.

I watched him go, still blushing and tingling from his touch, until Jasmine hit my arm.

“Snap out of it,” she said.

I glared at her but was a little grateful for it.

As we watched the fire wither until it finally went out, I came up with an idea. A favor for Jasmine. I may hate it, but it was for her.

I grabbed her hand. “Come on.”

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“You’ll see.”

I pulled her into our house and down the stairs.

We went to the music room.

I stopped us in the middle of the room, and I faced her.

“Ok,” I said. “Since you love dancing, and always want me to dance with you, I will tonight willingly. But only for a couple songs.”

“Do I get to choose any of these songs?” Jasmine asked.

I hesitated, because there were a couple songs that I really didn’t like dancing too.

“Umm . . . yes.”

Jasmine beamed and gave me a hug. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Now choose a song before I change my mind.”

“Ok.”

She ran over to the stereo system on the wall, scrolled through her list of dancing songs, and played one.

As soon as I heard it, I instantly regretted letting her choose it.

It was “Twist my Hips,” one of my least favorite songs she likes to dance to.

I groaned.

“Oh, shut up,” Jasmine said. “I’ll let you choose the next song, ok?”

“Fine.”

We danced to it the way she came up with the dance moves and then taught me them. The one thing Jasmine and I both agreed on about that song is that it was very tiresome. Well, every song you dance to is tiresome; but that one especially is.

The next song we danced to that I chose was “Something to Dance for,” and Mom wrote that one.

She and Dad actually came into the room right before we finished that song.

“Aww,” Mom said. “It’s nice to see you two made up.”

“Yeah,” Dad agreed. “I actually thought your falling out would last longer than it did.”

I laughed a little, but Jasmine didn’t seem to find it funny. In fact, she looked offended.

“Why do you think that, Dad?” she asked.

“Well, umm . . .” he started.

“Zak,” Mom warned. “Be careful.”

“Right. Uh, Jasmine, I didn’t mean anything by that.”

“Whatever, Dad,” she replied.

“I’m sorry.”

“Again, whatever, Dad.”

“Jasmine,” Mom said. “He already feels bad for it and he’s apologized. Don’t make him feel worse.”

She looked down, a little ashamed. “Sorry, Dad.”

“It’s all right,” he replied. “I did deserve it.”

“Just because you deserved it, doesn’t mean she should’ve given it to you,” Mom said.

“Grandma told me that exact same thing a while ago,” Jasmine said.

“Well, she is my mother, so I probably got it from her.”

“Yeah.”

I wasn’t paying much attention to their dispute, because I was thinking about something when I first saw Mom come into the room, and that this was the music room.

“Mom,” I said. “Since you’re a really good songwriter, do you think you could write a song about mine and Jasmine’s friendship that I could sing?”

She smiled. “I already have.”

“You have?” Jasmine asked.

She nodded. “Yes. Two, in fact. One that you two could sing together as a duet; and another that you could also try to sing as a duet, but may be better if one of you lead sings it and the other background sings.”

“Ok. And how long ago did you write these songs?”

“A few years ago.”

“A few years ago? And now you’re telling us about them?”

“I was waiting until either of you asked to sing your own song. Now you have, so how about we try them out?”

Jasmine and I both smiled and nodded.

“How about we do it in the morning?” Dad suggested. “It’s already pretty late.”

Jasmine sighed. “Fine. Good night, Mom and Dad. Come on, Annabeth.”

I laughed. “Ok. Good night.”

Jasmine grabbed my wrist and we raced to our room.

The next morning, after breakfast, we went to our grandparent’s house, since that’s where our recording studio is.

Mom could’ve put one in our house, but she wanted to record her music in her original studio and home since she has been for most of her singing career.

Mom gave us the lyrics for both of the songs, and we decided to sing the one that Mom wasn’t sure to make a duet or not first.

The song was called “Gift of a Friend.”

We read over the lyrics, and Jasmine, of course, let me decide on how we should sing it.

I wanted us to sing it together, but as I read over it, I felt a personal connection to it. So I decided that I would lead sing it, and Jasmine would background sing.

After Mom taught us how to sing it, we got ready to record it.

Now, usually, background singers sing in the back behind the lead singer, but Jasmine insisted that she and I sing next to each other, and Mom didn’t argue, and I liked it. So that’s what we did.

We got into position, Mom started the music, and we started singing.

Sometimes you think you’ll be fine by yourself

Cause a dream is a wish that you make all alone
It’s easy to feel like you don’t need help
But it’s harder to walk on your own

You’ll change inside
When you realize

The world comes to life
And everything’s bright
From beginning to end
When you have a friend
By your side
That helps you to find
The beauty you are
When you open your heart
And believe in
The gift of a friend
The gift of a friend

Someone who knows when you’re lost and you’re scared
There through the highs and the lows
Someone to count on, someone who cares
Beside you wherever you go

You’ll change inside
When you realize

The world comes to life
And everything’s bright
From beginning to end
When you have a friend
By your side
That helps you to find
The beauty you are
When you open your heart
And believe in
The gift of a friend

When your hope crashes down
Shattering to the ground
You, you feel all alone
When you don’t know which way to go
There’s no signs leading you home
You’re not alone

The world comes to life
And everything’s bright
From beginning to end
When you have a friend
By your side
That helps you to find
The beauty you are
When you open your heart
And believe in
When you believe in
When you believe in

The gift of a friend

When we finished the song, I wiped away my tears.

I started crying when I was singing the third verse, because it reminded me of when I was seven, after I ran away. That moment when I tripped and thought that whatever monster was chasing me would catch me and eat me, but it was actually Jasmine that came to find me.

That was one of the happiest moments of my life, and I cried at the memory of it.

Jasmine probably remembered it too, because she gave me a hug. “I know.”

I smiled and hugged her back.

“Aww,” Mom said over the speaker. “That was great you two. Now, do you want to sing the other song?”

We both nodded.

“Alright. Here it comes.”

Mom started the music, and Jasmine began first.

[Jasmine]

She was given the world
So much that she couldn’t see
And she needed someone to show her,
Who she could be.
And she tried to survive
Wearing her heart on her sleeve
But I needed you to believe

[Both]
You had your dreams, I had mine.
You had your fears, I was fine.
You showed me what I couldn’t find,

[Jasmine]
When two different worlds collide.

La dee da dee da

[Annabeth]
She was scared of it all, watching from far away.
She was given a role, never knew just when to play.
And she tried to survive
Living her life on her own
Always afraid of the throne
But you’ve given me strength to find hope.

[Both]
You had your dreams, I had mine.
You had your fears, I was fine.
You showed me what I couldn’t find,

[Annabeth]
When two different worlds collide.

[Both]
She was scared
Unprepared.
Lost in the dark.
Falling Apart,
I can survive,
With you by my side.

[Jasmine]
We’re gonna be alright.

[Annabeth]
This is what happens when two worlds collide.

[Both]
You had your dreams, I had mine.
You had your fears, I was fine.
You show me what I couldn’t find,

[Annabeth]
When two different worlds collide.

[Annabeth]

When two different worlds collide.

That song is actually true of me and Jasmine.

We’re both a part of two different kinds of worlds. Her: cryptozoology and her kind of Immortality, with of a little bit of popularity. Me: Greek mythology. And we kind of are what happens when two different worlds collide in a good way.

We smiled at each other and bumped our friendship bracelets as our own special kind of high-five.

Then, suddenly, Jasmine’s hands started glowing white.

“Whoa,” she said. Then she looked at Mom through the glass. “Does this mean what I think it means?”

She smiled and nodded. “Yes.”

Jasmine looked back at her glowing white hands and smiled.

But I was confused. “What does it mean?”

“My powers,” Jasmine replied. “They’ve finally activated.”

I told you it was going to be messy. And it was probably overdramatic. Another thing about Jasmine as she gets older. But what did you think?

Quiz time!

What is the title of the two songs Annabeth and Jasmine sang and who sings them?

And yes, one of those songs is where I got the title of this story from.
